Paul Oakenfold Presents: SOUNDTREK – A Journey Up Mount Everest to Host ‘The Highest Concert on Earth’
Oakenfold and celebrity friends are set to embark on a series of treks to the planet’s most awe-inspiring locations to showcase musical cultures from around the world – starting with a live performance at Mount Everest.
The godfather of dance music, Paul Oakenfold, has announced his latest groundbreaking concept, “SoundTrek”, which will see him break a world record on Mount Everest with the ‘highest party on earth’.
SoundTrek, which will launch in April 2017,, will see Paul Oakenfold and friends make the journey through Nepal’s remote villages to Mount Everest for a ground-breaking live concert event at an altitude of 5,350 meters.
Billed as ‘the new music mix for the travelogue generation’, for each Soundtrek experience Oakenfold will create a unique SoundTrek mix to provide a sensory journey from some of the world’s most iconic locations. The SoundTrek mixes will be available for download, as well as being broadcast to millions of music fans and travel enthusiasts worldwide.
The project aims to raise money for charities through epic events, sponsors and donations and looks to integrate local culture with music and global EDM. In addition to the main event at Everest, Soundtrek has hired internationally recognized and award-winning cinematographer, Mark Fisher, of Fisher Creative to direct the Soundtrek documentary for an inside look at the trials and tribulations of hosting a concert at the top of the world.
The first journey will see Paul Oakenfold and his friends seek inspiration ‘all the way to the top’, from collaborating with local street artists and introducing EDM music to remote villages. The goal of this journey is to raise donations for the Earthquake-stricken Katmandu, before reaching Everest’s base camp for the highest party in history.
For the expedition to Everest, Oakenfold will be joined by a unique cast of 6 individuals including 1 major celebrity and 1 social media star to be announced. Leading the pack will be world-renown mountaineer and Everest guide, Kenton Cool. Cool is an acclaimed British mountaineer and expedition leader who has reached the summit of Everest eleven times. He has appeared on the world’s leading broadcast channels from the BBC to ITN, as well as featuring in a one-hour documentary for BBC 4 & The Discovery Channel with fellow mountaineers Sir Ranulph Fiennes and Ian Parnell. “I have been to the top of Everest several times now but this experience will be truly unique. Not only is the project groundbreaking, but it also gives us the opportunity to pay our respects to Everest, Nepal and its values by helping to support local culture and charities”, said Kenton Cool.
British born Paul Oakenfold, is one of the true superstars of dance music and remains one of the leading forces in the world music scene today as a 3-time Grammy nominated artist. Career highlights span from opening London’s Ministry of Sound in the early ‘90s to selling over five million records across the world (including five studio albums and over 25 mix albums). As one of the world’s most prolific producers, he has also worked with artists from Madonna to U2 and has produced soundtracks for several prominent film and TV concepts. “This isn’t the first time I’ve performed in an iconic location. My ‘Great Wall’ soundtrack, recorded at the Great Wall of China, was one of my favourite experiences. This project will bring my fans even closer to the music by joining our amazing journey to support local communities”, said Oakenfold.
Joining Oakenfold on the trek will be Mark Brimblecombe, owner of Attica, who said, “I’m really excited for my club brand to part of a great project which will take dance music to the far corners of the world. Our main ambition with SoundTrek is to involve local cultures and highlight environment matters through the promotion of dance music”.
Also joining the trek will be serial entrepreneur and concert producer Josh Heffler, owner of LineRocket Entertainment, which has produced a plethora of unique large-scale events across the globe.
The SoundTrek project will also give the opportunity for up-and-coming DJs and producers to share their music with the world via a global DJ database called the ‘SoundTrek Base’.
